A painting with a clear Baroque aesthetic, painted by Rembrandt in 1636, depicts a Greek mythological scene where the goddess Danaë is seen receiving Zeus in her chamber, who presents himself in the form of golden rain.
In the first version of the painting from 1636, Saskia van Uylenburgh, the first wife of Rembrandt, served as the model; however, in its rendition of 1643, the face was replaced with that of his mistress, Geertje Dircx.
